Year 6 Open Day at Down High

Our Year 6s enjoyed a morning at Down High sampling some of the subjects and activities they will experience at post-primary school! They had a great time and it was lovely to have some familiar faces showing us around. Thank you girls and thanks to all the staff and pupils at Down High for welcoming us into your school. Thanks also to Pamela, Tracey and Oriel for helping with transport

Mr Milligan and the ukulele players in Year 6/7 gave a wonderful performance of the songs they’ve been learning for their classmates this morning. Well done everyone!

After this, the boys and girls all enjoyed an online concert from the Ulster Orchestra who played some famous songs from the movies which we all recognised!

Shared Education fun for Year 6/7

Today we met up with the pupils from St Joseph’s as part of this year’s Shared Education project. Our focus this year has been ‘Ourselves’ and the boys and girls have learnt lots about how to have a healthy body and healthy mind!

In sunshine and in showers Year 6/7 thoroughly enjoyed a rugby taster session with MarieAnne from Ballynahinch Rugby Club. Thank you for an active and enjoyable afternoon!

Our Year 7s took their classmates on a trip around the world this morning as they presented their findings from their research projects. They all did a great job, speaking with confidence and answering questions from a captive audience, as they taught us all lots of interesting things about their chosen country. Well done boys and girls….you should all be very proud of yourselves!

World Maths Day was celebrated in the Year 6/7 class by taking their learning outdoors with a measures treasure hunt, using their Maths eyes to search for things linked to Maths around school and competing in the Mathletics live challenge!

Maths is everywhere and we use our Maths skills everyday!

Today Year 6/7 welcomed Stephen from AB Coaching to Glasswater to lead then in a Resilience and Well-being workshop. They were reminded of lots of affirming messages and learnt some great tips for managing their emotions, as well as having lots of fun along the way!

Year 6/7 have had the best day out at the Ulster Folk Museum, Cultra as part of the Shared Education project. We have learnt lots about how people lived in the early 1900s and had a taste of what a day at school would been like too. I think they were all quite relieved when the bell rang to get out of school and into the school yard to play!

Thanks to all the lovely staff at the museum for making our visit so enjoyable.

Skeletons + STEM = A Busy Year 6/7 classroom

Today Year 6/7 were asked create a structure that was strong and steady enough to support and hold a ball as far above their desk as possible. Showing creativity, problem-solving and great teamwork along the way, they did it!

Year 6/7 have been planning their new topic “Ourselves” since starting back this term. They have enjoyed drawing their self-portraits, trying to include all the distinguishing features which make them all uniquely wonderful! What a gorgeous and creative bunch!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas🎄

Year 6/7 loved painting snowflakes ❄️ and snowmen ⛄️ for their Christmas trees this morning. Thanks to the PTA for providing this lovely Christmas treat for the children and to the staff from Colours Paint Your Own Pottery Studio, Ballynahinch, for helping the pupils create their decorations. 🎨

Year 6/7 loved doing their Daily Mile in their festive favourites today! They jingled…and chattered….all the way around the streets of Crossgar!

Anti-Bullying Week 2021

The Year 6/7 pupils have been drawing on their creative skills this week to develop a new action hero to combat bullying in schools. They presented their ideas to the class this afternoon and they were super-impressive! Ideas for superpowers ranged from freezing the bully before they hurt someone, to zapping them to allow the bully to experience what the other person would feel and teleporting the bully straight to the principal‘s office!

Brilliant work Year 6/7!

The Seed Stop, our Young Enterprise business, is now closed. We have sold a staggering 230 sunflower-growing kits and made a profit to buy some end-of-term treats after all our hard work. Thank you to everyone who supported our business and we hope you enjoy planting and watching your sunflower grow.
