Today our Year 6 and 7 pupils enjoyed a day exploring their local area with their friends from St Joseph’s. After a fun, fact-filled tour of Crossgar with local historian, Callum Bowsie, the boys and girls worked together to create a Keith Drury Art inspired masterpiece “Crossgar” and wrote some poems about our wonderful village.

Predicting, investigating and drawing conclusions - many proving themselves to be curious and enthusiastic scientists!
World Book Day 2025
It was all about book characters and book genres in Year 6/7 today as we enjoyed a day in our comfies to #ReadYourWay. The boys and girls thought about which book character they’d like to be for a day, searched for book genres in our school library before conducting a survey to find out which genre is most popular in Glasswater. All this, combined with some time to read and a special World Book Day assembly with Mrs Wilson, made for a memorable World Book Day!

A Victorian Schoolday
The Year 6s and 7s travelled back to the 1800s to get a taste of what life was like for schoolchildren in Victorian times. They embraced it all....from dressing up, to completing the 3 ‘R’s, enjoying some traditional playground games, sewing for girls, technical drawing for boys, some even tried some workhouse gruel at snack time! A great day was had....but something tells me they’ll all be happy to return to 2025-style learning in the morning!
Big Schools Birdwatch 2025

It’s been time for Science in the Year 7 classroom this week. The pupils have been learning about forces and carrying out investigations to explore friction and air resistance. A great bunch of budding scientists they are - predicting, fair testing, recording and tomorrow they’ll be drawing conclusions!
Our Year 7s had fun today as they finished up for the half term break. They enjoyed chatting to their friends as they walked round the village looking for scarecrows, posing for the camera with smiles (and scary faces!!) and bopping around to some Just Dance videos in the classroom!
Thanks to the PTA for organising a memorable day for the pupils and of course for the lovely treats! Happy half term everyone!
Year 7 have embraced Maths Week Ireland by becoming trainee agents whose mission it was to find the code to unlock a DATA themed Escape Room. With terrific teamwork and careful calculations, they were successful!

Richard and Sharon from Bellshill Farmshop and Tearoom kindly came in to visit our Year 7s this afternoon. The pupils listened intently and asked lots of questions as Richard told them all about his farm, how he uses technology, about the crops he grows and what goes into some of the foods we eat and enjoy.
The Year 7s learnt lots about farming and food production and throughly enjoyed their afternoon with Richard and Sharon. Thanks to them both for coming along (and for the delicious traybakes which went down a treat!)
Farming in the Past
Today our Year 7s had a fantastic morning at Castlewellan Forest Park where they learnt lots about farming in bygone years. They tried their hand at some of the stages of linen-making from flax and role-played a hiring market (where most of them were successful at getting a job for some rather hard-to-please employers).

The Year 7s have been busy this week designing a farmyard for Farmer Brown. They used their Numeracy skills to draw a plan to scale and showed great communication and cooperation as they worked with a partner to do so. Brilliant job boys and girls!
Our Year 7s have been enjoying settling back into school as they embark on their final year at Glasswater!
