Our author of the month is Ian Whybrow, author of the Harry and the dinosaurs series. We have been looking at the book Harry and the Robot today. We have been doing lots of activities:
- playing imaginatively in the Dino small world area
- being creative as we made dinosaurs and robots with 2D shapes
- problem solving as we made robots with junk materials
- listening to the stories and looking at the books
- making up our own stories using the puppets
- finding out about speech bubbles
- developing fine motor skills as we made models with sparkly, green playdough
- making robots that can move their arms and legs with linky cubes
What awesome learning!
Our Topic is Toys and P1 have had an incredible week getting ready for today's Teddy Bears' Picnic.
In Literacy we made invitations for the picnic, wrote a shopping list, described the bears and gave them new names. In ICT we have been using the recordable pegs to record voices. We also took photos with the iPads. In Numeracy we made patterns with Compare bears and measured headbands for our teddies. We have put the bears in order of size. In Play Based Learning we painted bears, had a Goldilocks House and a picnic area.
Today we had our faces painted like Pudsey. We made toast or sandwiches in the shape of a bear. We got into disguise and learnt about 6 o'clock. Our teddies have had a lovely day.
Wow, what amazing learning!
PS Sorry some of the photos need to be rotated (website issue) but hope you enjoy anyway!

A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL INVOLVED
On Saturday 22nd October we had a volunteer tidy up. This has made a wonderful difference to our school. We verged, scraped moss and took ivy off the school perimeter wall. We painted the fenced area around the bins, the planter pots, & renewed the yellow safety edge markings on the stairs. Finally we had a good sweep up and removed the fallen leaves along with a little gardening. Thank you to Brian Clydesdale, Stephen Fitzsimons, Nicola Han, Leesa Jenner, Chris McClintock, Matt Owen and Paul Scott.
Lots of smiling faces and wonderful costumes were a delight to see at this years Halloween Disco. With 81 Children attending it was indeed a fun and busy night.
Special thanks to the following:
-Andrew Han of Highlight Events for being our DJ on the evening.
-Andrea Grimason who donated some new Halloween Decorations.
-Bells Crossgar supplied our drinks and sweets at a discounted rate.
-Daphne Scott who donated some other confectionary.
-Stephen & Paula Fitzsimons leant us some giant hands.
-The PTA Mums who gave lots of help with the set up and running of the event.
-Miss Creighton who took some great pictures and was the last one to leave, locking up.
